Leadership Reflections – On the Road

We remain in the peak of our 2024 Spring outage season. Last week we had 3200+ craft working 179K hours on ~200 jobs. So far this year we have 5K+ craft working 1.9M hours on 700+ jobs.

The past month I have visited multiple jobsites. It is one of my favorite parts of the job. I am amazed at the work our teams do, from the complex lifts to the fine mechanical skills (blending, welding) to the basics of nuts and bolts. All to keep the lights on (and to keep the cold air blowing this summer).

I share my reflections in the below thoughts and in this video.

Three reflections from my recent visits:

1. We are highly aware of the Life Saving tasks and risks – lifting and rigging, work at heights, energy isolation, etc. Refreshed Life Saving Rules (simpler cleaner, positive rules) are coming this summer and will be part of our Safety & Quality Reset.

2. We are inconsistent with priority messaging and visual management. Expect to see that standard this summer at the Safety & Quality Reset.

3. Why storyboards hit the heart!  What an awesome reminder every day you enter and exit the site of what’s most important – going home healthy and safe to those who need and love you.

Finally, a treat for those who enjoy a good song as you travel to the next job, “On the Road Again”.
